Mission + Impact
After a long career devoted to non-profit and social service work, I followed a new path into retail and opened Home Retreat in 2017. It all began with a simple idea, to curate a retail collection that makes a difference. A collection where you can do good and look good; where style meets substance. That simple idea was the catalyst for our retail space in Geneva, Illinois, as well as our online collection of ethically sourced, high quality goods. At Home Retreat, we are committed to ethical business practices and Fair Trade principles that value quality, not only in the goods we offer, but also in the lives of our artisan partners.
Fair Trade empowers artisans through skills training, safe employment and fair wages. It also provides one of the most sustainable ways to break the cycle of poverty. Our artisan partners are creating beautiful and distinctive pieces that are also directly improving lives around the world. At Home Retreat, you will find an eclectic mix of unique goods that help support marginalized artisans and reinvest in our community, both locally and globally. In addition to our commitment to Fair Trade, we also proudly donate a portion of our sales from our artisan and made in the USA goods to local charitable organizations.
Home Retreat truly is a family affair and I am so grateful for the love of my beautiful family who encourage and support me every step of the way. My amazing husband and children are my love, my joy, and my greatest blessing. Their compassionate, kind hearts inspire me to make a difference every single day. We sincerely hope you will enjoy and find inspiration in our collection of artisan and Fair Trade goods that are doing real good in the world. At Home Retreat, every piece is as beautiful as the story behind it and every purchase makes an impact. Thank you for visiting. With a grateful heart,
Amy Owens, Founder
What is Fair Trade? It is an approach to business and to development based on dialogue, transparency, and respect that seeks to create greater equity in the international trading system. Fair trade supports farmers and artisans in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized. These producers often face steep hurdles in finding markets and customers for their goods. For more information, please see Fair Trade Principles:
Our collection is evolving and eclectic with goods sourced from countries all over the world including Haiti, Uganda, Senegal, Mali, Ethiopia, Nepal, Guatemala, Mexico and India. Our Fair Trade Federation certified goods are not only beautiful and unique, they are also helping improve and empower lives around the world. We believe in giving back to our local community as well, which is why we search for and support local artists and proudly donate a portion of the sales from our artisan and made in the USA goods to local charitable organizations.
